Businesses that Make the Most Money

There are many types of businesses out there, ranging from small business to massive corporations that span the entire planet. No matter how big or small a business is, they all have something in common: they all want to make as much money as possible. Here are some of the top businesses that generate the most revenue.

1. Walmart generates $245 billion dollars per year in revenue, with their total assets totaling up to $151 billion dollars (Business Insider). They come in at number one on this list for generating more than double what any other company here does. However, their net income last year was only 2% lower than ConocoPhillips’ (slightly over $15 billion). Walmart also holds second place for the most employees of any company, at 2.2 million people working for them worldwide (Walmart Corporate).

2. ExxonMobil had a revenue of $237 billion dollars last year, with assets adding up to a total of about $341 billion dollars (Business Insider). They have a net income percentage that is slightly lower than ConocoPhillips’, but not as low as Walmart’s by much. The number of employees they have working under them is roughly 1.8 million worldwide (Exxon Mobil).

3. Apple comes in third place with an annual revenue of over $200 billion dollars and assets totaling roughly around $285 billion dollars (Yahoo Finance). Last year, their net income was actually higher than both Walmart and ExxonMobil’s net incomes combined. One thing holding them back from ranking higher on this list is the fact that they have a simply astounding number of employees working for them: roughly 123,000 worldwide (Apple).

4. Microsoft rounds out the top five, coming in with an annual revenue of over $87 billion dollars and assets totaling up around $133 billion dollars (Yahoo Finance). Their net income last year was about half of Apple’s net income percentage wise, but it still did well enough to put them inside the top five. The number of employees Microsoft has comes in at a little under 100,000 people worldwide (Microsoft Corporation).

5. ConocoPhillips ranks right behind Microsoft at number six on this list with an annual revenue of over $73 billion dollars and assets adding up to roughly $50 billion dollars (Yahoo Finance). Their net income last year was about 13% higher than Microsoft’s, putting them at number five on this list. They have roughly 52,000 employees working for them worldwide (ConocoPhillips).

6. General Electric rounds out the top 10 with an annual revenue of over $150 billion dollars, assets totaling around $499 billion dollars, giving them a slight edge on their assets compared to Apple’s by almost half-a-billion dollars (Yahoo Finance). Their net income is where they fall short against some of the other businesses on this list– it is lower than ConocoPhillips’ but not as low as Walmart’s. They have roughly 297,000 employees working for them worldwide (General Electric).

7. Microsoft comes in at number seven with an annual revenue of over $87 billion dollars and assets totaling up around $133 billion dollars (Yahoo Finance). Their net income last year was about half of Apple’s net income percentage wise, but it still did well enough to put them inside the top five. The number of employees Microsoft has comes in at a little under 100,000 people worldwide (Microsoft Corporation).

8. Wal-Mart ranks eight on this list with a staggering annual revenue of over $446 billion dollars and assets that add up to a total of roughly $263 billion dollars (Seattle Times). They have not done as well their net income though, having a net income that is slightly lower than ConocoPhillips’ and just a little higher than Microsoft’s. The number of employees they have working for them comes in at over 2.2 million people worldwide (Walmart).

9. Chevron rounds out the top ten with an annual revenue of over $192 billion dollars and assets totaling up to roughly $226 billion dollars (Yahoo Finance). They come in close behind Wal-Mart on this list, but their net income last year was much lower than the business ranked eight on this list– around half as high as Walmart’s percentage wise (Yahoo Finance). Their numbers show that it would be beneficial for them to increase their net income: the number of employees they have working for them is only slightly higher than ConocoPhillips’ and only a little over half of General Electric’s– they have roughly 53,000 employees working for them worldwide (Chevron Corporation).

10. Apple takes the number ten spot on this list with an annual revenue of over $200 billion dollars and assets totaling roughly around $285 billion dollars (Yahoo Finance). Last year, their net income was actually higher than both Walmart and ExxonMobil’s net incomes combined. One thing holding them back from ranking higher on this list is the fact that they have a simply astounding number of employees working for them: roughly 123,000 worldwide (Apple).
